  1. Who is eligible for Income Support Allowance?

Employed and Self-employed citizens whose income has been negatively affected by Covid-19 crisis. 

  1. What is the eligible period for Income Support Allowance?

Income Support Applications have been opened for the allowance months from April to September 2020 (First and second phase of the program). As of 10th November, new applications for these periods have been closed (deadline reached). The government has announced plans to extend the program till the end of the year (i.e. allowance for October, November and December month), and details will be gazetted once confirmed.

  1. Will foreigners be eligible for Income Support Allowance?

No, only Maldivian employees between the ages of 18-65 will be eligible for this. 

  1. Who will be considered as employees who have been negatively affected by Covid-19?

Employed: Workers who have been laid off or sent on No Pay Leave, or workers whose salary has been reduced and is receiving below MVR5000. For example: An applicant who is earning MVR10,000 before COVID-19 and is earning a reduced income of MVR3000 is eligible for Income Support of MVR2000. 

 An applicant who is earning MVR3,000 before COVID-19 and is earning a reduced income of MVR1000 is eligible for Income Support of MVR2000.

Self Employed: Must have been working as self-employed person for the past 6 months up to March 2020, and if the current income is below 5000/-

  1. How to apply for Income Support Allowance?

Login to https://Jobcenter.mv/ using your eFaas account to apply for Income Support Allowance for affected months.

  1. Can the application for Income Support Allowance be emailed?

No, you can only apply for Income Support Allowance through the Job centre portal. 

  1. Will Income Support Allowance be given in USD?

Income support allowance can only be deposited in MVR to an MVR account.

  1. What if the applicant does not have an MVR account?

You can use a third party MVR account for the deposit. 

  1. Who can be considered as a third party?

Anyone can be considered as a third party as long as you present the required documents for the allowance to be deposited in the third party’s account.

  1. What are the documents that should be presented for an Income Support Allowance application? 

Employed: Documents to verify employment. This can include contract, payslips, COVID-19 impact change letter, employer reference letter and 3 month bank statement of income depositing bank account. 

Self Employed: Documents to prove freelance work, this can include invoices, cash receipts, reference letters from buyers or sellers such as shops, resorts, companies, cooperative societies with official letterhead or stamped, bank/transfer slips, social media portfolio.

  1. What are the documents that should be presented by the third party when applying for the Income Support Allowance?

Declaration form that states that the third party has no objections with the ID Card copy of the third party. 

Personal information including ID card number, bank name, bank account number and bank account name have to be presented.

  1. How would the applicant know that the Income Support Allowance application has been submitted?  

You will receive a SMS and an email stating that your application has been submitted. 

  1. How much is given as Income Support Allowance?

If you’re on No Pay Leave or been laid off, you are eligible to receive up to MVR 5000

If your salary has been deducted and is below MVR 5000 now, income support will cover the difference and up to MVR 5000. For example, if you were earning MVR 1000 before pay reduction, the maximum you are eligible to receive is MVR 1000.

  1. How can the applicant check the status of their Income Support Allowance application?

You can check the status by logging into Jobcentre.mv

  1. Is it mandatory to apply for every affected month separately?

Yes, you will have to apply for each month separately

  1. What are the conditions that have to be followed after receiving the Income Support Allowance?

Should agree to take part in skill development programs conducted by the government. 

Should be willing to work if you are offered a job through the Job centre.  

  1. What should be done if the applicant gets a job/salary after applying for the Income Support Allowance?

You will have to inform the Job centre in order to cancel your application. 

Recommended to file a complaint through Job centre portal or email to contact@jobcenter.mv

  1. What actions will be taken against fraudulent applications?

Cancelling the application and cutting off the income support allowance.

Applicant will be required to pay back the income support allowance received within a month.

If applicant fails to do so, legal action will be taken.
